Working with People Experiencing Homelessness Training helps healthcare providers learn how to recognize different forms of homelessness, understand structural and health-related risk factors, navigate housing and referral systems, apply Housing First principles, communicate in trauma-informed ways, maintain professional boundaries, and respond safely and ethically in community and field-based settings.
What You Will Learn:

Identify and differentiate federal definitions and types of homelessness, including chronic, episodic, and transitional homelessness.

Explain key structural, economic, and health-related factors that contribute to homelessness and housing instability.

Recognize populations disproportionately affected by homelessness and describe barriers they face in accessing care and housing.

Apply Housing First and low-barrier principles when making referrals or engaging individuals in services.

Demonstrate respectful, person-centered communication strategies that reduce stigma and build trust.

Maintain professional boundaries and respond appropriately to hesitation, escalation, or safety concerns in community and field settings.

Navigate the homelessness response system, including coordinated entry and supportive service referrals, to support continuity of care.
