Understanding Pet Autotransfusion

The following Understanding Pet Autotransfusion is designed to educate veterinary team members on the purpose, safety considerations, workflow, and team responsibilities involved in autotransfusion procedures under veterinary direction.

What you will learn:

• Recognize when autotransfusion may be considered and the team’s role in the process

• Describe safe blood collection, handling, reinfusion, and monitoring practices

• Apply communication, documentation, and escalation practices that support patient safety
