Supporting Safe Medication Self-Administration

The following Supporting Safe Medication Self-Administration is designed to educate healthcare providers (HCP) on how to provide safe, respectful support during medication self-administration while staying within the approved care plan, workplace procedure, and authorized role.

What you will learn:

• Medication self-administration versus staff administration

• Appropriate support for medication self-administration

• Medication safety concerns that should be reported

• Role boundaries and tasks that require authorization

• Following the care plan and medication directions

• Recognizing changes in a person’s medication routine or support needs

• Responding when instructions, labels, or medication appearance seem unclear

• Respectful support, factual documentation, and privacy during medication assistance

Once completed, you will receive a certificate of completion to verify you have finished the training. Course Length: 60 min; CME 1.0.
