Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training helps healthcare providers learn how to recognize, prevent, and safely manage crisis situations using nonviolent, trauma-informed strategies to protect the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and organizations.

What You Will Learn:

  • Recognize early warning signs of crisis and agitation in healthcare settings, including behavioral, emotional, and verbal indicators.

  • Apply nonviolent crisis intervention models (such as the Safer-R and ACT models) to safely de-escalate crisis situations.

  • Use effective verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques to reduce aggression while maintaining patient dignity and safety.

  • Demonstrate respectful, empathetic communication and active listening when interacting with patients experiencing distress or challenging behaviors.

  • Set clear, firm boundaries without confrontation to maintain professionalism and prevent escalation.

  • Safely respond to verbal and physical aggression while prioritizing personal safety and ethical decision-making.

  • Understand legal, ethical, and organizational responsibilities, including workplace violence prevention, reporting requirements, and staff rights.

Once completed, you will receive a certificate of completion to verify you have finished the training. Course Length: 1 hour & 15 min; CME: 1.25.
