Motivational Interviewing Foundations

The following Motivational Interviewing Foundations is designed to educate healthcare providers (HCP) on the foundational principles, values, and communication skills of Motivational Interviewing to support respectful, person-centered conversations that encourage internal motivation for positive behavior change.

What you will learn:

• Core principles and values of Motivational Interviewing

• How Motivational Interviewing differs from directive approaches

• The practitioner’s role in supporting reflection and autonomy

• Use of open-ended questions, affirmations, and reflective listening

• Recognizing and encouraging change language

• Responding to ambivalence and resistance respectfully

Once completed, you will receive a certificate of completion to verify you have finished the training. Course Length: 1 hour.
